Amy Winehouse’s legal troubles have prevented her from gaining a US work visa, scuppering her plans to perform at a major American concert next month, it has emerged.
The 25-year-old singer – who was charged with common assault last week – will no longer appear at April’s Coachella festival.
She had been a headline act along the likes of The Killers, Sir Paul McCartney and Morrissey at the California spectacular, which is attended by around 75,000 fans.
Her spokesman told the Daily Mirror: “She is not appearing at Coachella this year in the light of current legal issues.” The singer was said to be “absolutely gutted” at the development. As well the thousands of fans, legions of top record executives are expected to visit Coachella. It would have been her biggest US show to date.
Winehouse – whose Back To Black album is a multi-million seller – was last week charged with assaulting a woman in Berkeley Square, Westminster, on September 26.
She will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court on March 17. A spokesman for the singer said: “Amy voluntarily attended a police station in London. She was questioned by appointment in relation to an accusation made after the Berkeley ball last year.”
It is not the first time US visa problems have stopped her performing. Last year a delay in finalising via paperwork forced her perform for the US Grammy awards ceremony live via satellite from London.
Is this really that big of a deal? Yes, I mean she's looking than she used to, she’s even gained a little weight and her skin has cleared up. But the girl’s still a mess, just not as bad of a mess. If it hadn’t been this latest assault charge, it would have been something else. Give her a chance DANG !!! But on the other hand give GUYANESE a chance! YEH we said it!
