All roads lead to linden on January 1, 2010 where entertainment is expected to be at an all time high.
The mining community will be buzzing with international entertainment at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground with live performances from Jamaican reggae sensations Tarrus Riley and Duane Stephenson as well as Brazilian sensation Pepe Merino.
Titled Stress release Fest the artistes will be backed by the Black Widow Band out of Kingston Jamaica.
Promoter Derek Wilson of Fast Forward Productions, the group that brought Cecile and Serrani to Guyana last January 1 is among the directors of the event. He said there is no beef with the Kashif and Shanghai Organization which will also be staging the annual Football tournament but said their venture out grew the Linden venue an entertainment and economic void was created.
He explained that “Linden is considered as a depressed community with almost no major economic activity happening and our community had gotten accustomed to having the football tournament but for economic reasons the event has moved to the national/ international level understandably so. Given that; that event also created a major economic boost for resident we are having this show to ensure that Linden has some economic activity during the festive season while providing international entertainment at the next level.”
Promotion team players businessmen Winston ‘ZAR’ Caesar and Kevin Barren among others said they decided to create another avenue for Lindeners and at the same time offer chances for some domestic tourism via entertainment to take place in the community. Promoter Derek Wilson said “We are inviting all people who like conscious vibes and who believe in respecting and celebrating women to head to Linden on January 1, 2010 for this event. In addition we are inviting those who like the Brazilian vibes to head to Linden because Pepe Merino is coming to perform on that night too and he is bringing his dancers with him.”
The artistes are scheduled to arrive in Guyana on December 31 and will be featured on a motorcade at Linden on the same day.
The promoter said “We have already collected our signed contracts and the flights are already booked so people need not worry about the show not coming off.” He listed the sponsors as including Ansa Mcal, Demtoco, Sterling products and several other co-operate citizens.
