Faye-ann Lyons and Mavado, both on chart topping misions!

Faye-Ann Lyons tops several Caribbean charts simultaneously with Heavy T and Meet Superblue.

The 2009 International Soca and Groovy Monarch Queen Faye-Ann Lyons Alvarez is number one simultaneously on several charts across the Caribbean with two singles. She is riding high with Heavy T and Meet Superblue.

Lyons recently gave birth to a bouncing baby girl in Trinidad. Faye-Ann also received the People's Choice award and the Road March title at the recently held Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.

She is married to fellow soca artiste Bunji Garlin. Faye-Ann's father is veteran soca star Super Blue and her mother is Calypsonian Lady Gypsi.

Meanwhile after a slow start, Mavado's latest VP Records album Mr Brooks . A Better Tomorrow raced to the top of Billboard's Reggae Album chart. The album, which was released via iTunes more than a week ago, was officially released on compact disc earlier this week.

The album contains some of Mavado's recent chart hits as well as a few exclusive tracks. Among the more familiar tracks are Don't Worry, On the Rock and the recent Billboard R&B singles chart hit I'm Special.

Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin gets new baby girl!

Minutes after noon yesterday, the four-crown 2009 "Soca Queen"-Soca Monarch, Groovy Monarch, People's Choice and Road March-successfully gave birth to her firstborn at the Mount Hope Maternity Hospital via caesarean section. Husband and three-time International Power Soca Monarch Ian "Bunji Garlin" Alvarez missed the greatest show of his wife's life, only managing to arrive at her bedside later in the evening from Tobago where he had gone to fulfill contractual obligations.

In the days leading up to the birth, both parents had said they did not know the gender of the baby. But there was some indication when, during Lyons-Alvarez's winning performances at the Soca Monarch finals last weekend, she placed the microphone to her belly, and a digitally-created voice of a baby was heard chanting that (she, the baby) and her mommy were putting a lyrical beating on Bunji.

Lyons-Alvarez was admitted to the hospital on Friday, suffering from pre-eclampsia. Fay-Ann's manager, Ian Pantin, reported yesterday that both mother and child were doing just fine.
Security was tight at the hospital, with guards assigned at all entrance-ways to the ward, as well as to the door to Lyons-Alvarez's private room. Only family were allowed entry.

Lyons-Alvarez performed throughout the Carnival season, stopping only last weekend after winning the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch titles and the bmobile People's Choice, and then picking up the Road March title over the two days of Carnival. Daughter of the legendary soca icon Austin "SuperBlue", Lyons-Alvarez won the Road March title singing "Meet SuperBlue", a tribute to her father and unborn child.

Faye-Ann Lyons wins TT Soca Monarch!

Faye-Ann Lyons makes history as she becomes Trinidad and Tobago's first ever female Soca Monarch. Not only did she manage to take the crown away from husband Bunji Garlin (the 2008 defending champion), she is also the biggest winner ever in the history of the event. Lyons goes home with three titles; Play Whe Groovy Monarch, bMobile International Soca Monarch and People Choice. Votes were cast by text message by 15,000 viewers at home. Lyons was the favorite of 60 per cent of all who voted.

Lyons now nearly eight months pregnant, honoured the beauty and culture of Trinidad and Tobago with her stage show. Contestants of the 2009 Big and Beautiful pageant modeled on stage during her groovy performance of Heavy T Bumper. She then introduced veteran Calypso and Road March Queen Calypso Rose to the ecstatic audience.

In the power category, Faye-Ann was clearly the star of the night, being one of few artistes who were able to provoke a wild response from onlookers. The euphoria increased exponentially when the original ruler of the soca monarch stage, her father, Austin Lyons appeared on stage during the song bearing his sobriquet; Meet Superblue. The deal was sealed when a confident Faye-Ann pointed the microphone to her belly, so 'Junior' could say something.

Rightly known as Fantastic Friday, Hasely Crawford Stadium was alive with the usual pyrotechnics, confetti, wining girls and mas. Tonight, however, was different with several competitors conceding defeat before the results were announced. Toronto-based artist, Kerwin Du Bois performed a special verse in his groovy performance of 2 Days, singing "somebody else going and win tonight." Grenadian brothers Luni Sparks and Electrify, described their experience as sabotage at least three times in their colourful performance of Clear D Way.

It was obvious to any onlooker that Trinidad was completely unfamiliar with their entry and those of most of the seeded international competitors. One such contender, Ricky T of St. Lucia made the questionable decision to try and generate crowd response by calling for patrons to "raise your hands if you know your Soca queen is Faye-Ann." Those who did heed the order visibly cast their votes before the panel of judges, plus a sizable international television audience watching live on MTV Tempo.
