After all the talk following Shelly G’s disappointing ‘no show’ for the recently staged Carib Soca Monarch competitions we at GtShowBiz.com got the opportunity to meet up with Shelly G allowing her to set things right.
This followed the harangue that herself and manager Ian Johnson on the HBTv Ch 9 shows. Many have said that they may contemplate legal action against that TV station for allowing some of the statement to be made on public television with out any proven facts to back it up.
The tirade included Ian Johnson calling persons by derogatory names etc to which all of the parties called out said they will not dignify Johnson with an answer or give him any “public attention which he so desperately craves” except to say “people become desperate when the walls are closing in on them.”
Shelly was expectedly happy to meet with us here at GSB mainly because she believes that other media houses were not giving the public her story right.
She began by apologizing to her fans first and then went on to say that it was never her intention to be absent from the Soca Monarch competition. She also said that the promoters knew all along before the night of the competition that she was not going to be there.
Her other excuse was that herself, Fojo (who is now working out of Trinidad) and Vision sounds artistes Alabama were banned from the HJTV studios for reasons which she did not disclose. The Soca Monarch band rehearsals were held in the same building as the television studio.
She also said that it was entertainer Rawle Ferguson who was responsible for contacting her to let her know when to start rehearsals but that he never got around to doing such.
When asked where was she at the time promoters were promoting shows with her as one of the acts on their advertisement and why she did not come forward at the time she was adamant and assertive. “I was in Trinidad recording new tracks with Fojo which I saw at the time as a better opportunity, but over all I was just not comfortable with the entire situation”.
When we contacted HJTv manager Kerwin said Shelly was never banned from the studio and that she was there on many occasions since last year. He did admit however that her manager Ian Johnson was told that he’s not welcome there as a result of the disrespectful attitude and statements on his programme aired on another television station. “It had nothing to do with Shelly G at all” and her missing meetings and rehearsals had nothing to do with HJTv either. He ended his comment by stating that “if we had banned Shelly G from our station then why was she still bringing her music to our studio to be played and why do we play her music then?” He said Shelly went to the band room one day and never returned with her music samples even after promising that she would.
Shelly G told us that she has put the whole issue behind her and is moving forward with her career with a main goal to be recognized as an international Guyanese artiste, not just someone with Guyanese heritage.
However, Carib soca monarch officials told Kaieteur News that they will not be dictated to by any artiste under any circumstance especially as it relates to another artiste performing. The Carib source said too that whatever the personal wrangling with Shelly G, her management and Jory that has no bearing on their choice of artistes as that is a matter between the artistes and in this case Shelly’s manager.
“Jamzone will mark it's 10th anniversary in 2010 and we have planned a series of activities to celebrate those successful years of adding to the development of the local tourism sector. “
”As a prelude to the August Jamzone Anniversary we have a calendar of activities to celebrate with our fans and committed supporters.”

“We plan to have eliminations to select Guyana’s representative to the pageant” said Kerwin Bollers. Preliminaries will be held in all participating countries. The prizes will amount to US 15,000 including US$13,000 cash. “
As was done this year the event will continue to be dubbed ‘Jamzone Summer Break Weekend’ and will feature four nights of super concerts, beach parties and one fantasy pageant. Planning is on going. “The queen takes home a Motor car or US $10,000”, Bollers said. More details as plans progress.

As it relates to the cost to attend these events the group stated that each event will be affordable individually and as a package deal through the purchase of season tickets.
